Hunters Point Shipyard Redevelopment Project Various Structures and Site Developments

Project Description

The Hunters Point Naval Shipyard was established in 1869 in southeastern San Francisco as the first dry dock on the Pacific Coast. In 1940, the Navy obtained ownership of the shipyard for shipbuilding, repair and maintenance activities and subsequently to submarine services and testing. The shipyard consists of 936 acres: 493 on land and 443 under water in San Francisco Bay. In 1991 clean up commenced in preparation for civilian re-use. In 1999 Lennar BV Partners was selected to develop the 550 acres of land that had been divided into 6 parcels.

FEJA Role

F.E. Jordan Associates Is providing infrastructure-engineering services for utilities, roads, site development, piers and several historic buildings. Services provided were planning level concepts for infrastructure within super pads (between main streets) storm drain collection and disposal, a signature bridge crossing and support services to other team members. FEJA also provided civil and structural design services for the South Basin Bridge preliminary planning. Major services included the evaluation, analysis, planning, and conceptual design for the rehabilitation or disposal of all waterfront structures construction of the size of an entire Port. FEJA is responsible for 23 piers, wharves, dry docks, quays, breakwater and other waterfront facilities.
